Super cool place to visit even if it is small. Don’t forget to get your salt crystal and lick the chunk of salt.

We pulled in while riding our motorcycles on a grand tour of Texas. This is one of our stops in 2024. Unfortunately, we pulled up just as they locked the doors and closed. However we did chat for a bit with the docent and she was very informative. The unique building is built out of rocks of salt that must be seen to be appreciated.

Worth getting off I-20 to stop here! We learned a heck of a lot about salt, the salt mine, and Morton Salt. The "palace" is really a tiny building with a salt block façade, but used to be made entirely of salt. (The rain did a number on the old buildings.) The lady inside was friendly, funny, and helpful. We could have listened to her talk for hours! Even if the visitor's center is closed you can see (and lick!) the outside of the building. Really wish they were still doing tours of the mine...

Short and sweet. It was short enough the kids weren’t bored ,but had a lot of neat and interesting things to learn which kept the kids attention. Free admission / they do accept donations .It was a great place and the employee of the place was very knowledgeable and told us a lot of cool fun facts. Definitely recommend. It doesn’t take long to walk through and it give you something to do for a few minutes , my family and I really enjoyed it.

Visiting this museum was a delightful surprise! After living here 3 years, we got the opportunity to take our visiting family here for an outing. The staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. The lady brought the history of Grand Saline and the local salt industry to life. Her passion and in-depth knowledge of everything in there, plus fascinating tidbits about the area, made the experience truly engaging and educational for all ages of our family members. The museum was concise enough (being in a very small building) to keep children entertained, yet packed with interesting facts that captivated everyone's attention. And the building is especially unique in that is constructed from salt bricks! Situated in the center of the community, visitors might catch a bake sale and a farmers market during their visit. There’s also an extra special display about Chris Tomlin that adds a unique touch. Admission was free (though donations are graciously accepted). There were reasonably priced souvenirs including a chunks of salt crystals. There was even a penny press machine. It's a stop well worth making. Whether you have a few minutes or more, you'll leave knowing more about Grand Saline and its rich heritage. Highly recommended!

Stop here for in-depth information about Grand Saline and the history of salt and the local area. Kay was my friendly guide. Her knowledge about salt & activities in Grand Saline was impressive. The building is small, but packed with history, memories, and highlights of the Grand Saline community.
